DOING IT TO DEATH.

A DISCUSSION OF THE SPORTING LYFE.

The Anti-Highlight

For those not in the know, Tony Wroten Jr. is projected to be selected in the later part of the first round of this year’s NBA Draft. He’s 6’5” tall but can handle the ball as well, which reminds some scouts of James Harden and Tyreke Evans. The crucial difference between these players and Tony Wroten Jr. is that Tony Wroten Jr. cannot shoot a basketball.

Now, this is not in the sense of, say, a Rajon Rondo, who doesn’t have great range on his jumper, knows it, and doesn’t take shots unless he feels relatively certain he can make it. Wroten’s on some junkyard shit. Most of these shots aren’t even close. In this video, don’t think he makes a single shot that isn’t a layup, and he misses his fair share of layups.

To someone who regularly watches basketball highlight videos, watching a lowlight  video seems like it’s going to be an exercise in drudgery, but it’s actually quite entertaining. Wroten has the athleticism and combo guard skills to create open looks, but when he does, gaaaack. There’s a real sense of the sublime here. Tony Wroten Jr. is a Doing It To Death draft pick for 2012. This will not be the last time his name is written here.
